Extraordinary, dramatic, incredible, awesome: the performance by the Alé - Cipollini Team at the 4th Strade Bianche Women Elite can be defined with contrasting adjectives. The strained faces of the athletes, the cold due to the rain fallen during the whole race and the mud have been a sign of a brutal day, which gave an exciting result for the #YellowFluoOrange: Janneke Ensing ended in 6th place and Marta Bastianelli was 11th. The four victories since the beginning of the season have galvanized for sure the Team, who was directed by Fortunato Lacquaniti and came to Tuscany with big chances to get an important result in the first 2018 Women’s World Tour Race. The rain characterized the entire race, the mud covered all the gravel sectors due to the bad weather of the last days. The #YellowFluoOrange Team was constantly in the front of the chasing group of the race leader (and winner) Anna Van der Breggen and of the two riders Elisa Longo Borghini (3°) and Katarzyna Niewiadoma (2°). Janneke ended with a gap of 1’37’’ from the winner. “What we have done today has been incredible and it demonstrates the important mental and physical condition.” - declared the Team Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti - Even with the cold and the rain we never gave up and we could try to go on the podium as well. It has been another big work by the team and staff.” The Team moves to Cinquale di Montignoso to race the National Open race “Trofeo Oro in Euro” tomorrow. RESULTS STRADE BIANCHE WOMEN ELITE: 1.
