The Women’s Tour of Great Britain, one of the most prestigious races in the UCI Women’s World Tour, has began today with an amazing 2nd place taken by Marta Bastianelli.

The former World Champion of Stuttgart 2007, who has already won six times during this season, arrived just behind the Belgian Jolien D’Hoore and ahead of the American Coryn Rivera in the opening stage (Framlingham - Southwold, 130 kms), a result that permits to Marta to wear the Green Jersey of the Points Classification tomorrow in the stage 2, 145 kms between Rushden and Daventry. The finish was slightly uphill and against a headwind.

With no races in the last days, the team demonstrated already an important condition. This result gives more faith for the next four stages and especially for the National Championships. The Team Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti stays calm: “This podium is important, the team raced again really well. But the race has just started, let’s stay focussed to confirm the results in the next stages.”
