THE TEAM ALE'-CIPOLLINI AT THE DRIEDAAGSE DE PANNE-KOKSIJDE
The Trofeo Alfredo Binda - Cittiglio of last sunday is over and now the #YellowFluoOrange Team is back to Belgium for the fourth Women’s World Tour race of the year, new for the UCI Women’s Calendar: the Three Days of De Panne, which has been transformed in a one-day race starting in Bruges and ending in De Panne after 151.7 kms.
This race was a short stage race in the Men’s calendar but now it enters as women’s race in the UCI WWT becoming a semiclassic in both events. It would be a race where the sprinters should be able to make their best: no cobblestones, but the violent wind which often blows on the Belgian Coast of the Northern Sea can be the biggest trouble with the rain.
After leaving Bruges (Brugge in Flemish language), the race moves on the coast going down to south-west: passing from Oudenburg, Middelkerke, Diksmuide and Veurne, the peloton arrives in De Panne for a final circuit of about 15 kms to be repeated twice, going through Koksijde, the city of the Duinencross, one of the most prestigious stages of the Cyclocross World Cup.
Fortunato Lacquaniti, selected as Alè - Cipollini Team Manager, the following six athletes: Chloe Hosking (Australia), Marta Bastianelli (Italy), Soraya Paladin (Italy), Janneke Ensing (Netherlands), Roxane Knetemann (Netherlands) e Romy Kasper (Germany).
“Big concentration is needed in this very new race and it will be important to stay in the front. The wind is a trouble that, if there will be, we must take care a lot.” - declared the Team Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti.
