BIG #YELLOWFLUOORANGE AMBITIONS AT THE GIRO ROSA
We are ready: the Team Alè - Cipollini is leaving to Verbania, where the 29th edition of the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Women Elite, the biggest Women Cycling Race, will start on Friday afternoon. Fortunato Lacquaniti and Gulnara Fatkullina, as Team Manager and Sports Director, have slected the following seven athletes that are composing the line-up: Chloe Hosking (Australia), Marta Bastianelli (Italy), Janneke Ensing (Netherlands), Roxane Knetemann (Netherlands), Ane Santesteban Gonzalez (Spain), Anisha Vekemans (Belgium) and Soraya Paladin (Italy).
It’s going to be a “double-faced” Giro Rosa what it is ready to start: the first part is more for the sprinters and the second is exclusively for the climbers with the three uphill finishes of Gerola Alta, Campo Moro (Individual Time Trial) and especially the Monte Zoncolan from Ovaro, with its slopes up to 22%! The Big start is in Verbania with a Team Time Trial, followed by the stages in Ovada, Corbetta, Piacenza and Omegna. Here there will be the first relevant troubles before the mountains in Valtellina. After the Uphill Time Trial in Lanzada the race takes place in Breganze (Vicenza) for an undecided day before the big, final weekend in Friuli on the Zoncolan and in Cividale, where the Giro 2018 will be over.
Fortunato Lacquaniti says: “The target of the team is to win stages but we put an eye also for the General Classification. Chloe was very close to the victory many times last year and she really wants to take it. Marta gave a joy to Italy and the team winning in Polla and she started this season so well with the whole team. We also have big solutions for the mountains: this is an incredible group that is always unified to be a team, it is our biggest force! We must take a look to the various UCI Rankings to stay on the top as long as possible, hoping to be on the podium.”
The Team President Alessia Piccolo goes on: “The Giro Rosa is one of the biggest targets, the greatest women’s race of the International Calendar. Alè will support our girls and staff with all the sponsors during the whole race and we wish them all to do a great Giro Rosa!”
