BENE LADIES TOUR, BASTIANELLI 5TH IN MERELBEKE

The sprinter from Rome, World Champion in Stuttgart 2007, ended in fifth place the stage 1 of the BeNe Ladies Tour, a Road Race on the Belgian and Dutch roads. Marta did her best with the peloton to catch the daily breakaway including Marianne Vos, stage winner and new race leader, at the finish in Merelbeke, after a long stage (136 kms overall) and two climbs like Rekelberg and Molenberg to repeat twice, but she could reach to take the place 5. Marta Bastianelli has received in the past hours the convocation by the Italian National Coach Dino Salvoldi for the Road Race European Championships, which will take place on the 5th August in Glasgow (Scotland), together with the teammate Soraya Paladin.

The Team Alè - Cipollini is at the BeNe Ladies Tour with Marta Bastianelli, Roxane Knetemann and Karlijn Swinkels (Netherlands), Anna Trevisi (Italy, Anisha Vekemans (Belgium) and Daiva Tuslaite - Ragazinskiene. After the prologue of yesterday and the first road stage today in Merelbeke, tomorrow there will be two half-stages in Sint-Laureins (road stage in the morning, ITT in the afternoon), before ending on Sunday in Zelzate.
