ANE SANTESTEBAN IS AWESOME IS DURANGO
The Basque climber of Alè - Cipollini is fifth in the one-day race Durango - Durango, a hilly 113 kms long cycling race. The Alto de Goiuria, climbed in the last two laps, made the difference for the final result, as the Olympic Champion Anna Van der Breggen took a solo win, but Ane Santesteban Gonzalez was one of the main protagonists in the spectacular, final phase on her home roads in the Basque Country. The athlete born in Renterìa (Province of Guipuzcoa, near San Sebastian/Donostia) did not want to hide herself and made a show with her teammates for all the supporters on the route, ending the race in fifth place.
“The team was great and this result is very important. We are optimistic about the Emakumeen Bira, where there will be the same line-up of today.” - declared the Team Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti at the end of the race.
From a one-day to a stage race, the team stays in the Basque Country: the Emakumeen Bira is considered as the Women’s Tour of this Spanish region, and it’s part of the Women’s World Tour and it’s divided in four stages from 19th to 22nd May 2018. Three road stages in Legazpi, Aretxabaleta and Iurreta, plus an Individual Time Tiral of 26.6 kms from Agurain to Gasteiz is planned on the second day.
The Italian #YellowFluoOrange Team confirms itself at the top level of the Category in the world with its fourth place in the UCI Team ranking, and the third place (occupied by the Team Sunweb) is reachable for an eventual overtaking. Chloe Hosking gains one place in the individual classification, where she is sixth.
